Basics of MIFARE® technology
MIFARE® is a cryptographic system used to authenticate users and devices in RFID systems. It is based on the comparison of two number strings, each consisting of a prime number and a checksum. Authentication can be established by comparing the two number strings. MIFARE® is particularly secure because there is no copy of the keys. Each card contains its own key chain, which is stored only on that card. MIFARE® has several security features such as AES-128 encryption, 3DES encryption, authentication and other features that make it difficult or impossible for unauthorized persons to access your data. This means that your data is protected when the MIFARE® system is used. This makes MIFARE® ideal for RFID systems that require security and reliability. For maximum counterfeit protection, various features such as guilloche printing or holograms can of course be integrated onto your cards.
MIFARE® with contactless RFID technology are particularly convenient to use: unlike conventional magnetic stripe cards, which store all data on the card itself, MIFARE® DESFire cards store most of the data decentrally on a central server. This means that MIFARE® DESFire cards do not have to be physically swiped through a reader to be read. Instead, MIFARE® DESFire cards can simply be swiped past the card reader at a distance of approximately 10 to 40 cm to read the card. MIFARE® can transmit data in less than a second, making it an excellent system for minimizing access and transaction time. This makes MIFARE® cards one of the most advanced and secure solutions for contactless RFID applications.
