The data carriers are contactless, i.e. there is no contact between the chip and the reader/computer. There is a chip and an antenna. The chip lies protected inside the carrier. The data stored in the chip or on the PC are transmitted by electromagnetic waves. There are two types of data transfer: low frequency transfer with 125 KHz and high frequency transfer with 13,56 MHz, Hybrid or UHF.
Contactless storage media are especially suitable for access control, time recording etc.
